How Does BOTOX® Compare With DAXXIFY?

Is DAXXIFY better than BOTOX®? Our Rockland, Maine-based Skin Klinic & Day Spa team believes one injectable isn’t necessarily “better” than the other. Instead, each offers a unique experience for patients, offering certain advantages that may make it appeal more to some.

DAXXIFY from Revance Aesthetics is an innovative new neuromodulator set to revolutionize the world of injectable botulinum toxin cosmetic treatments. In this post, we explore what differentiates DAXXIFY from BOTOX® to give you a clearer understanding of these two neuromodulators and help you decide which option may be best suited for your goals.

First, the similarities: Both wrinkle-relaxing injections contain a small, highly diluted amount of botulinum toxin type A as their primary active ingredient. When injected into specific facial muscles, this ingredient prevents the muscles from contracting as they typically would when certain expressions are made. The skin on the surface looks smoother as a result, since it’s not bunching up into folds and lines.

The main difference between DAXXIFYand BOTOX® is the duration of their results. The results from BOTOX® last for three to four months on average, while DAXXIFY, made from a peptide, lasts roughly six months—and sometimes up to nine months—on some patients.

The longer lifespan means DAXXIFY patients would only need maintenance injections twice a year compared to three to four times per year for traditional neuromodulators. While longer-lasting results are appealing to many people, some patients who are having injections for the first time may prefer an alternative that doesn’t last quite as long.

Because DAXXIFY is derived from a peptide, it’s the only vegan neuromodulator: It doesn’t contain human serum albumin or animal-based components. DAXXIFY can be described as a “naked” injectable, like Xeomin®, since it isn’t formulated with the associated proteins found in other options. That means DAXXIFY™ doesn’t need to be refrigerated, which some patients prefer—since it’s not as cold when it’s injected.

Another difference? DAXXIFY was FDA approved for one treatment use upon its release: moderate to severe glabellar lines, also known as frown lines or 11s. BOTOX® is approved for three cosmetic uses: frown lines, forehead lines, and crow’s feet.
