Absolutely no surgery is required. Treatment sessions are completed quickly, and patients can get right back to their work or social activities without missing a beat. But just because BOTOX® is so popular and convenient, does that mean it’s right for you? With so many treatments and providers to choose from these days, it can be intimidating or overwhelming to consider which to choose—but have no fear! The Skin Klinic team is devoted to working directly with you to get to know your unique skin and personal cosmetic goals. From there, we can serve as your guide and recommend the ideal treatment for providing the results you want.

What Is BOTOX®?

Developed over decades of medical research, BOTOX® is an injectable treatment with a wide range of applications. The prescription medication was first made to help patients dealing with problems related to spastic muscles and involuntary contractions. Researchers soon noticed that patients being treated for certain eye problems also benefitted from a more youthful look as their facial muscles relaxed.

This is because making an expression involves muscles pulling the skin as they contract, which gradually leads to the development of lasting lines.

Think about how many expressions you make in a day, from smiling and frowning to scowling and raising your eyebrows in surprise. Everyday actions—including squinting in bright light, pursing your lips to drink from a straw, and simply talking—also contribute to constant facial motion. Each contraction pulls the skin numerous times a day. Now multiply that over weeks, months, years, and decades.

Just as repeatedly folding a paper will cause a visible crease to form, pulling the skin into countless furrows causes facial lines to develop. These are known as “dynamic wrinkles,” because of the dynamic motion of the muscles.

BOTOX® doesn’t “hide” these lines. The injectable prevents specific facial muscles from contracting, which stops them from pulling the skin into a wrinkle-revealing fold.

How Does BOTOX® Work?

BOTOX® is what is known as a “neuromodulator” for the way it alters how messages are sent and received via the nervous system. Once injected, it interferes with signals sent by the brain that would command facial muscles to contract. Since they don’t receive the message, these muscles do not move, even as the rest of the muscles required to successfully make the intended facial expression continue to work properly. The result is skin that stays at rest, remaining flat and smooth instead of bunching into a furrowed forehead or crinkling into crow’s feet.

The effect from a BOTOX® injection fades over time, so the targeted muscles will eventually regain their ability to contract.

What Can BOTOX® Treat?

The FDA has approved BOTOX® for numerous treatments. From an aesthetic perspective, BOTOX® Cosmetic is approved to address horizontal forehead lines, vertical frown lines that resemble the number 11 between the eyebrows, and crow’s feet next to the eyes. Experienced injectors, like the registered nurses at Skin Klinic & Day Spa, can also draw on their medical knowledge and years of safe injectable applications to accomplish other effects, such as smoothing bunny lines next to the nose or reducing the amount of upper gum revealed when someone smiles.

BOTOX® can also be used to temporarily shut down sweat glands in areas where constant perspiration can be an uncomfortable problem.

If you’re considering a treatment and wondering “Is BOTOX® right for me?” the best next step to take is arranging a consultation to talk with a professional and learn what the injectable can and can’t do.

Why Choose Skin Klinic & Day Spa for BOTOX®?

Every treatment at Skin Klinic & Day Spa—starting with the initial consultation and continuing through any follow-up care that may be needed—is handled by a registered nurse who is specially trained in medical aesthetics. We are not stylists who happen to offer injectables in the back of the salon, catering to people who search “BOTOX® near me” on the Internet and choose the closest provider. We are also not general doctors who do a little bit of everything, from surgery to diagnosing diseases.

Put simply, we do nothing but focus on making your skin, face, and body look and feel vibrant, healthy, and youthful.

With that in mind, we seek out advanced training, licensing, and certification to ensure we are offering our patients a safe and comfortable experience that ultimately provides them with the beautiful results they want. This philosophy is behind every BOTOX® injection, as well as in our approach to patient education and gentle guidance.

What Is the BOTOX® Experience at Skin Klinic & Day Spa?

No matter what results a patient is seeking, the necessary BOTOX® injections can be made in a matter of minutes. Despite the speed at which a treatment session can happen, each injection is made with precision and care. As registered nurses, we want to keep our patients as comfortable as possible while delivering maximum results.

Each BOTOX® injection into the skin causes a small, “pinch-like” sensation. If you want to discuss in depth what the procedure will feel like, as well as anesthetic possibilities to minimize sensation in the treatment area, we can do so during your consultation.

What Can I Expect from BOTOX® Recovery and Results?

Since the BOTOX® treatment involves injections, you should expect to feel a little sore, tender, or swollen wherever the needle was used. These areas may also appear red or very slightly bruised. We can talk with you about ways to manage post-injection discomfort and visible side effects—though both should resolve on their own in a matter of hours.

The wrinkle-smoothing benefits of BOTOX® can take a few days to take effect, with muscle activity winding down throughout the week after your treatment. Once the neuromodulator truly takes hold, you can expect to enjoy your results for about three months.

As the treated muscles’ ability to contract returns, so will the folds, lines, and wrinkles. We can develop a long-term aesthetic plan for you, which may involve “maintenance” injections of BOTOX® to preserve your more youthful look into the future.

What Other Treatments Are Available?

Similar to BOTOX®, Xeomin® and Jeuveau™ are neuromodulators that relax muscles to give the face a more youthful look. For signs of aging other than dynamic wrinkles, such as creases or contour changes due to lost collagen, a dermal filler would be more appropriate. Choose from the Juvéderm® or Restylane® families. Bridging the gap between the two options is the RHA® Collection, which is a filler designed to address dynamic wrinkles.
