Some injectable treatments are designed to add volume that is visible right away, but are made with gels that the body breaks down in a matter of months. Radiesse® at Rockland, Maine’s Skin Klinic & Day Spa is different. This injectable encourages renewed collagen production in the skin, naturally restoring lasting volume where needed.

Trained, certified, and experienced registered nurses make every Radiesse® injection at Skin Klinic & Day Spa, drawing on years of working with proven facial aesthetic treatments to create customized results. Patient safety and comfort are always paramount in our mission to provide beautiful and youthful contours.

What Is Radiesse®?

Put simply, Radiesse® is an injectable collagen stimulator. In more technical terms, it is a watery gel filled with microspheres composed of a material known as calcium hydoxylpatite. These microspheres provide the main benefit of the treatment: They trigger specialized cells in the skin to begin creating important collagen molecules.

Collagen provides structure in the skin, so having plenty of it translates to firm, defined, and youthfully full contours. While the body is able to constantly replace collagen molecules that break down with new ones, this cycle slows down as a person ages. Over time, collagen breaks down faster than it can be replaced. As its levels drop, the skin loses its structure, firmness, definition, and fullness. This leads to hollows on the face, the development of skeletal-looking contours on the backs of the hands as tendons and veins become more prominent, and other changes.

Radiesse® injections provide volume to address these changes, with the watery gel serving as an initial “replacement” to fill in areas where collagen loss has created hollows. This makes contours more rounded and reduces the severity of visible tendons and veins on the hands.

At the same time, the calcium hydoxylpatite microspheres in Radiesse® kickstart collagen production. As the body gradually breaks down the gel, natural collagen levels increase so that the treated areas stay fuller, smoother, and more youthful looking. The collagen-creation process takes months, and the results can last for up to a year or longer.
